Preserving art has been the focus of artists and art enthusiasts for thousands of years. In 1940 when the Lascaux cave paintings in the Dordogne in France were discovered, people flocked to see them. After years of visitors they found that the moisture from peoples breath was causing the paintings to fade. In the mid 1990s authorities closed Lascaux and spent tons of money to create replica chambers to allow individuals to get an idea of the originals without actually affecting them. This may have preserved the originals but it had the same effect on them as if they had disappeared, no ones got to see and experience them any longer.
Blu and David Ellis found a way to enjoy art simply for the act of creating it as opposed to being concerened about the longevity of their pieces. They took a run down court yard in an abandoned building and turned it into something beautiful, then covered it up and got to work again and again. Their enjoyment out of their works of art came from their love of the act of creating it which I feel is a true sign of an amazing artist.
