Cultural art

Art can be described in many different ways, and David Ellis and Blu truly captured the essence of what art is in their piece entitled, "Combo". Graffiti is often looked at by society as defacing property. The representation and passion that many graffiti artists have in their work is something that should be looked at in society as beautiful. Art is described often as representation of what people believe in and condone. Culturally, graffiti is a very visible part of many people's day to day travels. Just in a day I know that I pass numerous buildings including the Art building here at Ohio University. The fact that the University allows the graffiti to be in such a prominent spot on campus leads me to believe that society in Athens respects graffiti as an art expression. 

David Ellis and Blu's graffiti expression in the clip that we saw in class is moving and impressive. The fact that they are as passionate and took the amount of time that they did on their piece, "Combo" is a true testimate that graffiti should be respected by the art community. The artists constantly build and destroy their characters that are shown in the broken down building. In some ways, I can see society being represented because it is constantly being built up and then destroy and rebuilt. Using a condemned building and making it a beautiful piece of art lends me to believe that it the artists are trying to describe that art can make everything beautiful even if society looks down upon it.
