Although bullfighting is often criticized as being a cruel and gruesome sport, its cultural significance cannot be overlooked and makes it worthy of preservation. In the countries where it is still practiced, bullfighting is something that has been around for hundreds of years. It brings together people of all walks of life in the same way a football or basketball game would in the US. The killing of a bull in this form is far more symbolic than the torture and murder it is often depicted as. Though violent in nature, the bullfight is a reminder of life and death, and the different ways that cultures perceive these facts of existence.
